Job Title: Lead Guide / Experience Supervisor
Reports to: Tourism Manager
Hourly Wage: 80,000 yearly (salary) + benefits.
Position structure: Full-time, year-round, 40 hours weekly.
Purpose & Position presentation:
Under the direct supervision of the Tourism Manager, the Lead Guide / Experience Supervisor plays a key leadership role in delivering exceptional, safe, and culturally respectful tourism experiences across the Nootka Sound region (including Strathcona Park, Gold River, Tahsis, and Yuquot). This position blends hands-on guiding with experience design, mentorship, and operational oversight. The successful candidate supports Indigenous-led tourism growth by developing high-quality visitor experiences rooted in place, story, stewardship, and local partnerships.
Core responsibilities
Leadership & Experience Development:
Lead the creation, refinement, and delivery of guided experiences throughout the Nootka Sound region.
Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for tours and experiences.
Review guest feedback and use insights to continuously improve experience quality.
Training & Supervision:
Train, mentor, and supervise guides and apprentice guides.
Support professional development and skills growth within the guiding team.
Ensure guiding standards, safety practices, and guest service expectations are met consistently.
Safety & Risk Management:
Create, maintain, and enforce safety SOPs for all guided activities.
Ensure compliance with wilderness safety standards and emergency response protocols.
Act as a safety leader and role model in the field.
Operations & Collaboration:
Provide guided tours as required for guests and internal stakeholders.
Support the Welcome House Operations Supervisor when needed.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to align experiences, logistics, and operations.
Contribute to social media, marketing initiatives, and storytelling efforts, in alignment with cultural protocols.
Education/Experience
Required qualifications:
Strong knowledge of the Nootka Sound region, including Strathcona Park, Gold River, Tahsis, and Yuquot.
Wilderness First Aid (minimum 80 hours).
Big Boat Paddle Can certification.
Recognized Wilderness Guide certifications.
Degree or diploma in outdoor recreation.
Class 4 driver’s license, or willingness to obtain.
Proven experience as a professional guide in wilderness, marine, or cultural tourism settings.
Desired skills & attributes:
Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills.
Passion for experience creation and guest-centered tourism.
Ability to work collaboratively with Indigenous communities and partners.
Comfort working in remote and dynamic environments.
Creative thinker with an interest in business development and innovation.

Hourly Wage: $27.00 to $30.00 per hour (based on experience). No benefits.
Position structure: Seasonal (7 months), part-time with variable hours up to 40 hours weekly (based on operations).
Purpose & Position presentation:
Under the direct supervision of the Tourism Manager & the Lead Guide, The Seasonal Guide supports the delivery of exceptional, safe, and culturally respectful tourism experiences across the Nootka Sound region (including Strathcona Park, Gold River, Tahsis, and Yuquot). This role blends hands-on guiding, mentorship of apprentice guides, and support to experience quality and safety standards. The successful candidate contributes to Indigenous-led tourism growth by helping deliver high-quality visitor experiences rooted in place, story, stewardship, and respectful partnerships.
Core responsibilities
Field Leadership & Experience Delivery:
Lead and deliver guided experiences throughout the Nootka Sound region in a professional, guest-centred, and culturally respectful manner.
Support the refinement of tour plans and experience flow to ensure consistent quality and strong guest outcomes.
Collect and share guest feedback and operational observations to support continuous improvement.
Training, Mentorship & Supervision:
Provide on-the-job guidance, mentorship, and practical coaching to apprentice guides.
Support seasonal onboarding, route familiarisation, and skills development within the guiding team.
Help ensure guiding standards, safety practices, and guest service expectations are met consistently.
Safety & Risk Management:
Follow & Model safety protocols for all apprentice guides/activities.
Support the maintenance and use of safety SOPs and emergency response procedures; participate in drills and briefings as required.
Act as a safety leader and positive role model in the field.
Operations & Collaboration:
Support tour logistics, equipment readiness, and field set-up/pack-down as required.
Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to align experiences and operations.
Support the Welcome House Operations Supervisor when needed.
Education/Experience
Required qualifications:
Strong knowledge of the Nootka Sound region, including Strathcona Park, Gold River, Tahsis, and Yuquot.
Wilderness First Aid (minimum 80 hours).
Big Boat Paddle Canada certification.
Recognised wilderness guiding certification(s).
Class 4 driver’s licence, or willingness to obtain.
Proven experience guiding in wilderness, marine, or cultural tourism settings.
Outdoor Leadership diploma or degree preferred.
Desired skills & attributes:
Strong leadership, mentorship, and communication skills.
Reliable, calm, and safety-focused approach in remote and dynamic environments.
Strong guest service mindset and confidence handling enquiries and day-of issues.
Ability to work collaboratively with Indigenous communities and partners.
Interest in experience quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
